Recruits in the navy/marines tend to spend much longer overseas than soldiers and airmen/women.  In 2008, nearly two-thirds of navy/marines recruits spent more than three months away from their home [i.e. from the place they normally live while in the navy/marines] on operations or exercises.  A quarter of navy recruits and a third of marines spent more than six months away.  About a third of navy/marine recruits were satisfied with this and a third dissatisfied.
