Is it true that I'd get free dental treatment, travel, pension... in the navy? Print E-mail

There are several perks of a navy career:

  • You would get free dental treatment.
  • You wouldn't pay for your pension but it wouldn't be free either - recruits' salaries are reduced to pay for it.
  • Accommodation would be generally cheaper than in civilian life, but partly because it is of a generally poor standard and you wouldn't get to choose where you lived.
  • Food charges are set in the same way as subsidised canteens in civilian firms.
  • You would get some help to pay for return journeys by rail each year during time off to visit family and friends.
  • You would get lower council tax bills, partly because you would usually share accommodation with others.
