Comment: 'A very interesting and informative site. I have found your website to be very neutral and balanced (at least with respect to the Royal Navy) and would recommend it to anyone interested in joining the forces. I left the Navy a couple of years ago after more than 10 years and enjoyed some days and hated others. Everything balanced I do not now regret joining the Forces. Whilst serving and talking to people, however, it was always frustrating when new joiners remarked "that is not what the recruiter said" (or "that is not what I thought the recruiter said" – not always the same thing!). The Navy had a strange policy of not letting people experience real life in the Forces before closing the gates to get out. People could only leave during the artificial training environment and were encouraged to endure their misgivings on the promise that life in the "real world" would be different. The consequence was that after joining a ship, those who were discontented and genuinely unsuited to Service life quickly influenced the morale amongst those who joined soon after them. Ultimately responsible recruiting and appropriate release procedures will ensure that the best volunteers are serving in the Forces.'
